DIRECT ONLINE STARTER WORKING PRINCIPLE AND WIRING DIAGRAM

Scheme: DOL starter with panel
Direct on Line (DOL) Starter:
The simplest method of starting an induction motor is Direct On line(DOL) starter. The DOL starter consist of MPCB or MCCB, Contactor, over load release and fuse for protection. Thermal over load relay protect the motor from over load.
The starter is controlled by Stop and start push buttons, an auxiliary NO contact is used for holding. Which means contactor is energized even though we release start push button.

DOL Starter Wiring Diagram:
The control and power cable wiring shown in the diagram.

Parts of DOL Starter:

1. Contactor
2. over load release
3. NO-Normally open/start
4. NC-Normally close/stop
5. Fuse

DOL Starter Wiring:
The connection diagram of DOL starter include MCCB/MPCB, contactor, over load relay, Start push button, and stop bush button.

DOL starter wiring diagram
The 3 phase 415 volt 50Hz AC supply respectively R, Y and B are connected to contactor terminals L1, L2 and L3 via Fuse. Motor terminals U, V and W are connected to over load relay terminals. Over load Relay and contactor terminal are interconnected.

Working Principle of DOL Starter:
When we push Start push button the contactor is closed, current flows through the contactor coil and the control circuit also. Now applying 3 phase voltage to the motor winding. The motor draw very high inrush current during starting. The motor will develop required rotor torque and begins to rotate. When the motor reaches full speed the motor current become normal.

If we press stop push button power to the motor winding is disconnected. And supply to the motor is not available, if the motor is over loaded same operation will happen. No flow of current rotor speed come down gradually, rotor come to rest.

As the motor supply breaks, then the machine moves towards to relax. The contactor coil gets power supply even though we release start push button because it obtain supply from main contact as explained in the DOL starter wiring diagram.

Characteristics of DOL Starter:
1. Starting current is high 6 to 8 times full load current.
2. High starting torque.
3. Rotor Speed reaches within seconds.

Advantages of DOL Starter:
1. Easy to design and operate.
2. Economically cheap.
3. Provide full starting torque during starting.
4. Easy fault finding and troubleshoot.
5. Very compact easy to carry.

Disadvantages of DOL Starter:
1. For large capacity motor contactor size is big.
2. High starting current nearby 5-6 times of full load current.
3. Life of the motor will reduce.
4. DOL starters suitable only for small capacity motors.
5. Voltage dip.
6. Chance of cable melting because of high starting current.

Application of DOL Starter:

Application of DOL starter are primarily motor where high inrush current does not cause high voltage drop in the main supply.

DOL starters are used to control small capacity machines such as compressor, Pump, conveyor, blower, etc. ,

Speed sensor: Working principle | Types | Applications

Typical view of Speed sensor   What is speed sensor? The speed sensor belongs to the tachometer category. It is a device used to measure the speed of wheel rotation of a vehicle. The speed sensor was initially used to replace the mechanical connection between the rotating wheels and the speedometer, reducing the use of cables and facilitating construction by reducing rotating parts. These sensors also generate data that allows automatic driving to take place. The speed of an object is the magnitude of the change of its position; it is thus a scalar quantity. The average speed of an object in an interval of time is the distance travelled by the object divided by the duration of the interval; the instantaneous speed is the limit of the average speed as the duration of the time interval approaches zero. Speed has the dimensions of distance divided by time. The SI unit of speed is the meter per second, but the most common unit of speed in everyday usage is the kilometer per h...

Definition of Logic Gates | Positive and Negative Logic | Truth table | Types of Logic Gates

Definition of a Logic Gate: "A logic gate is an electronic circuit which makes logic decisions". It has one output and one or more inputs. The output signal appears only for certain combinations of input signals. Logic gates are the basic building blocks from which most of the digital systems are built up. They implement the hardware logic function based on the logical algebra developed by George Boole which is called Boolean algebra in his honour. A unique characteristic of the Boolean algebra is that variables used in it can assume only one of the two values i.e. either 0 or 1. Hence, every variable is either a 0 or a 1.

Complete paper machine descriptions and explanations

History of paper a brief: Paper was first discovered in ancient China, and the first material used for writing was a "tree" called papyrus. These papyrus materials are not defined as real paper. It was first documented in China during the Eastern Han period (25-220 CE), usually told to a court official. Spread to the Islamic world during the 8th century. The algorithm of the 11th century was brought to medieval Europe. Later in the 19th century came the Western developments in the field of paper with the invention of wood-based papers.

What is Hall effect sensor? Working principle | Types and Applications

Hall sensor symbol What is a Hall effect sensor? Hall effect sensor is defined as a device which use the principle to convert magnetically encoded signals into electrical signals. Which means Hall effect sensor output voltage is directly proportional to the magnetic field strength. Hall effect sensors are used in automotive systems for sensing distance, position, speed detection, and current sensing applications.
